Run Loess Half Marathon and 5K
Saturday, May 27 at 8 a.m., $20–$60 per person
Lace up those running shoes and get ready for the Council Bluffs YMCA’s Run Loess Half Marathon and 5K! Starting and ending at Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park, the route explores nearby trails and ends with a celebration on the riverfront. Whether you're easing into things with your first 5K, or aiming to break your half marathon record with a sub-two hour pace, Run Loess offers a challenge for runners of all skill levels.
Seuss on the Loose — Family Character Run
Saturday, June 3 at 9 a.m., $10–$35 per person
Break out the Halloween costumes and dress up as your favorite storybook character – Dr. Seuss or otherwise – to celebrate literacy in the Family Character Run. Race through the Iowa School for the Deaf campus in a timed 5K run/walk, or cheer on your little ones in the kids fun run. Prizes will be awarded to the top three adult finishes for both men and women, as well as to the best-dressed adult and child. Come early for a free Pancake Man breakfast!
Beat the Heat 10K/5K
Sunday, July 9 at 7 a.m., $26–$33 per person
Take your training from the treadmill to the trails in the Beat the Heat 10K/5K. A point-to-point foot race on the scenic and mostly shaded Wabash Trace, this off-road course will wind through the Loess Hills on one of Iowa's most popular rail-trails.
Black Squirrel Sprint Triathlon
Sunday, August 27 at 8 a.m., $60 per person or $120 per team
Think you have what it takes? Push your stamina to the limits in the Black Squirrel Sprint Triathlon. Race solo or as a team through a 3-part course of swimming, biking and running. Swimmers will take to the water at Lake Manawa for the first leg (750 yards), followed by a 13-mile bike ride around the shoreline and concluding with a 5K run on city trails.
