Race Day Prep Made Simple

So you've registered for your first race, read dozens of online health articles and have your training plan, shoe choice and nutrition strategy locked down. Now what? We're here to advise you on how to make your running goals a reality in Council Bluffs. And for those of you not racing this year, our humble (yet informed) opinion is that you will be soon – so keep these tips where you can find them.

Train Smart

If you're looking for places to run or even bike on your cross training days, Council Bluffs is bound to have the terrain and views to suit your preferences. Partial to city skyline views with a cool waterfront breeze? Tom Hanafan River's Edge Park and the Iowa Riverfront Trail are the training grounds for you. Enjoy jogging through tranquil parks and lakes? Check out Lake Manawa and the Valley View Trail. Prefer shaded runs on unpaved forest trails? Hitchcock Nature Center and the Wabash Trace Nature Trail offer a scenic escape in the rolling Loess Hills.

Gear Up

Even with weeks of training under your belt, something as simple as your race day getup can be what makes or breaks your goal time. From running shoes and athletic socks to moisture-wicking shirts and nylon shorts, look no further than your nearby Council Bluffs retailers to find the proper gear for your race. DICK'S Sporting Goods is one of the leading sporting goods retailers, offering an extensive assortment of authentic, high-quality sports equipment, apparel, footwear and accessories. At Sideline Sports & Tees, you'll find most of the sports supplies you need in one convenient location. For streamlined apparel and gear for every sport, pay a visit to Midwest Sporting Goods.
