All Hallows Eve at Botna Bend

6:30 to 8:30PM | Botna Bend Park
Join us at Botna Bend Park for a two night celebration full of fun for the whole family!

We kick off the fun on Friday, October 20th at 6:30 p.m. with campfire stories for kids of all ages presented by the Council Bluffs Library.

Saturday, October 21st is a full day of fun with a variety of activities planned throughout the day.

10:00 a.m. : Halloween Crafts
12:00 p.m.: Corn Hole Tournament, register your two person team in advance at the Botna Bend Park office
3:00 p.m. :Live demonstrations with Raptor Recovery
6:25 p.m.: Campground Trick-or-Treating
7:15 p.m.: Movie in the Park - Hotel Transylvania

Please meet at Olsen Lodge for all of these events. If you are interested in participating in the Corn Hole Tournament at noon you must register your 2 person team at the Botna Bend Park office that morning before the start of the tournament.

Attendees must purchase a $2.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass or have a valid Pottawattamie County Conservation annual park permit to attend this program. Daily entrance passes may be purchased with exact change or check at the front gate and may be purchased the day of the event. Annual permits may be purchased for $10.00 from staff at any of our parks or at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center during regular business hours. There is no additional fee to attend this program, free will donations are encouraged and will support continued programming opportunities in Pottawattamie County.

Guided Night Hike

7PM | Hitchcock Nature Center
Join us at Hitchcock Nature Center on Saturday, October 21st at 7:00 p.m. for a guided night hike as we explore Hitchcock Nature Center and the Loess Hills in the dark.

This program is being presented as part of our adult education program and we ask that participants be 18 years of age & older.

Pre-registration is requested as space is limited. Advance registration secures your space at this event as walk in participants may not be admitted the day of the event. Register online in minutes at www.pottcoconservation.com or call 712-545-3283 for more information.

Please dress for the weather and wear appropriate footwear as much of this event will take place outside. Please note this program may include pedestrian travel over uneven surfaces.

Canines in Costume

1 to 3PM | Midlands Humane Society
Join us for the 9th Annual "Canines in Costumes" event where we celebrate DOGS! Guests will be treated to a costumed dog parade with prizes, music, food, vendors, raffles, photo booth, petting zoo, games, and product samples.

Raise Me to Read presents a Story Walk for families with children 0-5 years old. Featuring the book Pumpkin Pumpkin, by Jeanne Titherington. StoryWalk combines the pleasures of reading wonderful children’s books aloud with all the joys and benefits of walking together outdoors. Bird Banding Demonstration

Come get a "bird's eye" view of our fine-feathered friends as you join volunteers for a live songbird banding at Hitchcock Nature Center.

Volunteers will be banding songbirds at the Loess Hills Lodge at Hitchcock Nature Center from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. on the following dates:

Saturday, November 4th
Saturday, December 2nd

All ages are welcome to attend this live demonstration. Participants must purchase a $2.00 per vehicle daily entrance pass or have a valid Pottawattamie County Parks annual permit to attend this program. Daily entrance passes may be purchased with exact change or check at the front gate and may be purchased the day of the event. Taco Run - World Mission

9 to 11AM | Taco Johns
The Taco Run raises money for an annual student mission project at St Albert High School. The event is a 5K run or one mile walk. An entry fee includes a long sleeve t-shirt (for participants 8 years and older) and food from Taco John’s after the event for all participants. The race will begin and end at Taco John's located at 217 E Broadway.

Participants, age seven and under (walk only), are free. Participants, age eight and older (walk or run), are $20 for pre-registration and $25 the day of the race. Please note, entries received after October 27th are not guaranteed a t-shirt.

The 5K is a challenging run through scenic areas of the city. Medals will be awarded for the first place overall male and female finishes for the 5K. In addition, medals will be awarded to the first and second place finishers in each of the six age divisions of the run. The one-mile walk has no age divisions and no medals will be awarded.
