SWI Chorale Rehearsal Process (Men's and Women's Choirs)

The Arts Center, Iowa Western Community College
Come and experience the SWI Chorale (Men's and Women's Choirs) and participate in this fall's session!

Formerly known as the SWI Men's and Women's Choruses, this group has been re-branded as both a mixed choir, as well as single-gendered ensembles. Members will have the chance to sing in both experiences.

The men of the SWI Chorale will rehearse from 6-7:30 pm every Tuesday night. The women of the SWI Chorale will rehearse from 6:50-8:20 pm every Tuesday night. The middle section of the rehearsal will focus on the mixed choir literature.

There is no audition for this group, nor is there a fee for participating. We only ask for a dedication and commitment to each session, whether it's in the fall or spring.

The fall session will begin on September 12. The session will run through the fall concert on Sunday, November 5. A second performance will take place in Glenwood the following Tuesday, November 7.

Mystic Fest

10AM to 6PM | Mid-America Center
The Next Millennium is located in Omaha, Nebraska, and we have been in business for 20 terrific years. Our store is a family-owned business and we have had many of the same great employees for years. The store started off as a few incense racks and a shelf with a few books out of a hypnosis office! Charlie, the store’s founder, was working as a hypnotherapist and got requests from clients for books and incense. He had a second room in his office and started to bring in various incenses, rocks, and books. Initially, he had this “store” open by request only, then grew to being open for twelve hours a week! Demand grew and soon this space was not large enough to handle the requests for more products and we looked for a storefront. About a year later, we expanded the storefront to double the size of to allow for a classroom to offer classes on crystals, Reiki, Wicca, herbs, astrology, past life regression and many other great topics.

Gaelic Storm

7:30 to 9:30PM | The Arts Center, Iowa Western Community College
After nearly two decades and more than 3,000 live shows, Gaelic Storm — the chart-topping, multi-national Celtic band — is looking sharper than ever. This crowd favorite returns to the Arts Center with their latest release, Matching Sweaters. The new album mixes traditional Irish music with modern influences, creating a sound that's as wide-ranging as the band's own audience. In the mid-1990s, Gaelic Storm kicked off its career as a pub band in Santa Monica, California. By the end of the decade, the musicians had appeared in the blockbuster film "Titanic" (where they performed "Irish Party in Third Class") and laid the groundwork for a career that would eventually find them topping the Billboard World Chart five times, making appearances at mainstream music festivals such as Summerfest, Telluride and The Rock Boat Cruise, and regularly headlining the largest Irish Festivals across the country, all the while gaining a reputation as a genre-bending Irish band whose songs mix Celtic traditions with something new and unexpected. Now, with the band's 20th anniversary on the horizon, they're putting even more emphasis on those newer directions. Kick off your Spring with an Irish party at the Arts Center. Tickets are available through the Arts Center Box Office.

James Torme

7:30 to 9:30PM | The Arts Center, Iowa Western Community College
Multi-Award winning artist James Tormé is a uniquely gifted singer whose music infuses older jazz classics with soul and R&B influences of today. Tormé's magnetic relevance stems from the fact that he mixes the showmanship of his father's generation with the youthful charisma of a contemporary Hollywood star. Considering his roots, this shouldn't be too surprising. James comes from a professional show business family of household names. His father, Mel, a legendary singer, was a three-time Grammy Award winner whose songwriting credits include the most popular holiday song ever, "The Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting On An Open Fire)." For this program, James Tormé celebrates music's greatest legends, from Ella Fitzgerald, Ray Charles, Peggy Lee and Nat "King" Cole, to Miles Davis, Frank Sinatra, and of course, his own father, three-time Grammy Award winner Mel Tormé. Tickets are available through The Arts Center Box Office.
