What began in 1875 as a small effort to help those in need has blossomed into a powerful network of support that reaches nearly 120,000 individuals and families each year.
From its earliest days, the organization’s mission has been profound to strengthen individuals, families, and communities through advocacy, education, counseling, and support services. It’s a mission built on compassion and carried forward by thousands of helping hands.
Growing with Heart
Heartland Family Service started as a volunteer-led initiative and has since grown to a team of more than 400 dedicated staff members working across 20 locations in east-central Nebraska and southwest Iowa. Whether it’s a warm smile during a difficult moment or a life-changing program, each person involved helps build a stronger, more resilient community.
