A Q & A With Council Bluffs CVB Board Member Jordyn Boonie

Jordyn Boonie joined the Council Bluffs Convention & Visitors Bureau (CBCVB) board in June of 2018. As the general manager of the Courtyard by Marriott, Boonie gives the board a hotelier perspective.

Why did you choose to serve on the board?

After moving to Iowa and being new to the area, I jumped at the opportunity to meet members of the community, learn about Council Bluffs, and help the tourism industry in this area in any way possible.

What have you enjoyed about being on the board?

I’ve enjoyed being able to do just that, meet new people and learn of all the great things Council Bluffs has to offer! It’s also been very interesting for me to see the tourism industry from a different perspective outside of hotel operations.

How long have you been a resident of Council Bluffs (or worked here)?

I moved to Council Bluffs from Pennsylvania in December of 2017.

What does this town and its tourism industry mean to you?

This industry means everything to me, especially in Council Bluffs. There is so much history here and great things to discover. I myself was pleasantly surprised when I moved here, and I want more people to have the same great experiences that I have in this city.

What has the CBCVB achieved since you’ve been on the board?

We finally moved into our new home! It’s exciting to have a space that is just ours and much more visible to the community and visitors. This new location will allow us to better showcase our town.

What do you hope to see the CBCVB achieve in your time as a board member?

I hope we can maintain and obtain great relationships with event directors and event space holders to be able to draw even more tourism to the area. We have so much to offer in terms of venues; it will be important to bring these bigger events to the area and show them we really are the best city for them.

Is there anything else you’d like us to share with our industry partners about yourself?

I am originally from a small town in Ohio, and graduated from Ohio University with a Restaurant, Hotel, and Tourism degree. I started my career with Cedar Point, where I managed two of their hotel properties. From there, in 2015, I moved to the Poconos in Pennsylvania to open Camelback Lodge and Aquatopia Indoor Waterpark. When given the opportunity to open another hotel, I moved to Council Bluffs and opened the Courtyard by Marriott! It’s been a fun journey in the hospitality industry, and I’m so happy it brought me to Council Bluffs!

In my free time, I’m hanging out with my cat or hiking/camping—anything outside really. My fiancé, Zak, and I (pictured on the right) are also busy planning a November 2020 wedding in Mexico!
