Matt Johnson, owner and operator of Barley’s Bar here in Council Bluffs, was recently awarded the Iowa Restaurant Association’s 2020 Iowa Hospitality Operator of the Year award. This prestigious award is given to honor a restaurant owner or manager who demonstrates originality, quality, and service. Another important aspect is that they are someone who has contributed a positive image to the hospitality industry in Iowa.
Barley’s Bar opened its doors on the Historic 100 Block in 2001 and has continued to grow and evolve over the years. “Barley’s is more than a bar. And it’s more than a grill.” They serve high-quality food “without the stuffiness and exorbitant prices that often come with it”. Beer enthusiasts rave about their selection of 32 local and craft beers available on tap. Their committed and friendly staff ensure that every visit is special!
This is not the first award that Matt and his team have been awarded. In 2016, Barley’s earned the Iowa Restaurant Association’s Neighborhood Philanthropy award. Matt and his wife Jill are very involved in the community and are constantly involved in charitable and fundraising events to help local charities and non-profits.
Matt has served on the Council Bluffs Convention & Visitors Bureau board since July of 2017. His expertise in local business and hospitality has brought an important perspective to the board and we are very fortunate to work with him.
Congratulations Matt!
