Enhance Iowa Board Awards Sports Tourism Grant to Council Bluffs

On April 7, 2022, The Enhance Iowa Board awarded $26,000 in a sports tourism grant for the upcoming NJCAA Rising All-Stars event set to take place on July 18 through 21, 2022, and again in July of 2023 in Council Bluffs.

The Iowa Community College Athletic Association (ICCAC) and Iowa Western Community College will be co-hosting the event that will allow 65 select NJCAA men's basketball athletes to showcase their skills to coaches and scouts from the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), Divisions I, II, III, and members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

The basketball summit will include three games, multiple practice sessions, mental health resources, team-building opportunities, and scholarship information, among other helpful resources for the athletes. During the game and practice sessions, coaches will observe and evaluate the athletes' performance, skills, and interactions.

The Sports Tourism program provides financial assistance for projects that market or promote sporting events in Iowa. To date, 99 Community Attraction and Tourism (CAT) grants have been awarded by the board, totaling $31,508,183.
