Iowa Western Community College is hosting summer camps this year for middle and high school students interested in a variety of topics ranging from robotics, welding, CAD, and more! These hands-on courses provide students with unique opportunities to expand their skills and knowledge in specific areas of interest.

Come enjoy a day of hands-on activities constructing electrical circuits, experimenting with helicopters together with the utilization of CAD software from the Design Technology Program. Participants will be able to design a souvenir that will be 3D printed.
6th - 8th Grade - July 5th (8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
Enjoy a day of hands-on activities with Design Technology Instructors including; building bridges, destructive testing of bridges, and utilization of CAD software to design a souvenir that will be 3D printed.
9th - 12th Grade - July 7th (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
Come join the Culinary and Sustainable Resources Departments for a day of learning about growing your own food, making salads and sandwiches, and the proper Sanitation techniques that go with this kind of production. The students will be able to design and consume their own salad and sandwich creations while learning about gardening, Aquaponics, and cold food production.
6th - 8th Grade - June 7th (8:30 AM - 4:00 PM
9th - 12th Grade - June 8th (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
Learn the fundamentals of flight and aircraft maintenance at this fun and informative camp! Learn the basics of sheet metal as well as maintaining and starting fixed-wing aircraft. Explore basic electrical circuits, then get behind the yolk and get some flight time on our new RedbirdTM flight simulator. Drive rivets and build a custom aircraft-grade aluminum name tag to remember your day at Aviation Maintenance Camp!
9th - 12th Grade - July 8th (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
Do you like playing with electronics and robots? Come learn the basics of electronics and robots. Participants will run robots, play with electronics, and work on solar panels. We will spend time in the robotics lab, which has 7 industrial robots.
6th - 8th Grade - June 9th (8:30 AM - 4:00 PM)
9th - 12th Grade - June 16th (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
Diesel mechanics summer campers will learn shop safety, basic diesel engine theory and then head to the shop where they will use hand tools to assemble and adjust a heavy-duty diesel engine. When the engine is complete, campers will run their engine to verify the proper assembly and adjustment procedures while admiring their work.
9th - 12th Grade - July 12th - 14th (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
*Note - 3-day camp
Campers will learn about construction materials and methods and how to plan and safely manage a construction project. There will be opportunities for hands-on experience and each participant will utilize and practice their learned skills throughout the camp while working together to build a construction project.
6th - 8th Grade - June 21st (8:30 AM - 4:00 PM)
9th - 12th Grade - June 29th & 30th (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
* Note - 2 day camp for 9th - 12th grade
Welding camp will be provided an introduction into the world of welding with an emphasis on wire feed welding and plasma cutting. This camp is all about learning a new skill safely, while at the same time having fun doing so. Students will be shown how to safely turn molten metal into some very cool projects and work on a project they can take home with them.
6th - 8th Grade - June 28th (8:30 AM - 4:00 PM)
9th - 12th Grade - July 19th & 20th (9:00 AM - 3:00 PM)
* Note - 2 day camp for 9th - 12th grade.
