February 1 through 3, River City Classic Gymnastics & Martial Arts returns to the Mid-America Center for their annual competition.
The event is put on by the Premier Gymnastics Booster Club and hosts competitors from across the region.
“All the gymnasts put in many hours a week of training at the gym in order to prepare for this event, with some girls training over 20 hours per week,” says Kim Hlivko, a board member of the Premier Gymnastics Booster Club.
The gymnasts show off their skills in four categories, showing off their skills on the uneven bars, the balance beam, through a floor exercise, and vaulting. The gymnasts compete based on their level, judged between level 3 and level 10. Young, beginning gymnasts start at level 3, working their way up to level 10.
“The River City Classic is where [the gymnasts> get to show off all their skills and hard work they have put in throughout the season,” says Hlivko.
The gymnastics competition is broken down into 12 sessions spanning the weekend. The complete gymnastics schedule can be downloaded from River City Gymnastics & Martial Arts’ website.
The weekend event also includes martial arts competitions consisting of sparring, self-defense application, and traditional forms of the sport.
The martial arts competition begins at 10 a.m. on Saturday, February 2.
Admission to the competitions are offered by session ($15 for adults, $5 for children), by day ($25 for adults, $15 for children), by weekend ($45 for adults, $30 for children), and the event finals are $25 for adults and $10 for children. Fans of gymnastics and martial arts will appreciate the hard work the competitors put into their performances and competitions.
