Summerfest is Happening at River's Edge This Friday!

The City of Council Bluffs is hosting the third annual Summerfest at River’s Edge on Friday, June 2, at 6:00 p.m. This year, the City of Council Bluffs is partnering with The Council Bluffs Public Library, Pottawattamie Arts, Culture & Entertainment (PACE), Charles E. Lakin YMCA, and The 712 Initiative to deliver a bigger and better event!

The main event at Summerfest at River’s Edge is a lighted drone show. At dark, around 9:20 p.m., Fantasy Drone Shows will light up the sky with 150 drones to display brightly moving images and simulated fireworks choreographed to music.

“Drone shows are an environmentally friendly alternative to fireworks; they do not produce debris or release harmful pollutants into the air, soil, and water,” said Council Bluffs Mayor Matt Walsh. “We are pleased to host the first drone show in Council Bluffs and know you’ll enjoy the safer, cleaner, and quieter summertime entertainment.”

Thanks to the Council Bluffs Public Library, Summerfest will have a foam party with foam cannons and giant bubbles. PACE is setting up a Jackson Pollock community mural activity where everyone at Summerfest can contribute to the masterpiece that will then be displayed at the Hoff Family Arts and Culture Center. The 712 Initiative has arranged for yoga classes on the rooftop deck at River’s Edge Pavilion during Summerfest. Parks and Recreation and The Charles Lakin YMCA are working together to provide plenty of recreation opportunities, including pickleball, basketball, baseball, football, lacrosse, disc golf, and more!

“Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park is the perfect place for events like Summerfest,” said Mayor Matt Walsh. “Residents of all ages are invited to come down to the park, grab a bite to eat, and enjoy the sights and sounds of summer.”

Admission to Summerfest is free thanks to our generous sponsors, Back to the River, Fantasy Drone Shows, The Go Play Initiative, and First National Bank. Food trucks will be on-site with concessions available for purchase. Ample parking is available in the parking garage.
