Travel Trends 2020

Travel trends change from year to year and we are taking a look at what is expected from travelers in 2020. We turned to Skyscanner to see what the upcoming trends are and it’s looking like Council Bluffs is the perfect place for traveling slow, unplugging, and getting away for the weekend.

Traveling Slow

Vacations are supposed to be relaxing and refreshing, right? The trends show that people are leaning towards a slow and stress-free way of vacationing in 2020.

Council Bluffs is home to an outstanding collection of public art that has been created by worldwide renowned artists. You can download the Otocast Public Art App on your Android or iOS device and take your time touring all of the art in Council Bluffs. Listen to the artist speak about their art and let them guide you from piece to piece. One of the great things about this app is that you can set your own pace!

Unplugging and Embracing JOMO

Have you heard of FOMO or the fear of missing out? This year travelers are unplugging and are finding the JOMO, or the joy of missing out. These travelers are interested in disconnecting from social media and staying present in the moment.

Unplug from the hustle and bustle and enjoy backpack camping at Hitchcock Nature Center. While you are out at the park, enjoy over 1,000 acres of hiking, picnicking, bird watching, and the peace of being out in the calming Loess Hills.

Local Flavors

Nothing says more about an area's culture than its food. Travelers want to experience the local flavors and dishes this year. Council Bluffs has over 60 local restaurants to choose from and can be found here. With all these wonderful and unique options, there is a place you and your taste buds will love!

Short & Quick Trips

It can be hard to take time off work or to coordinate schedules with your travel buddies. Quick weekend getaways are a great way to combat that issue! Stir Concert Cove brings world-famous musicians to Council Bluffs during the summer months. Come enjoy a show by one of your favorite musicians and stay the entire weekend, there are endless things to do!

Meaningful Journeys

Travelers are seeking more meaning from their trips this year. They are looking for an experience that inspires or changes them in one way or another. A visit to the Hoff Family Arts and Culture Center will leave you with nothing but that. Enjoy a variety of visual and performing arts exhibits or explore your personal creativity through programs and classes.

Sustainable Traveling

Travelers are wanting to leave less of a footprint when they travel this year. In Council Bluffs, you can hop on your bicycle and enjoy the Wabash Trace Nature Trail which takes you 63 miles through the serene and unique landscape. On Thursday nights, ride out to Tobey Jack’s Mineola Steak House for the weekly Taco Ride, no gasoline required!
