So much happens during the month of May when we nearly go from spring to the summer season in the course of one month! Because of all these amazing changes taking place, Dustin Clayton will be leading two programs this month where you'll look deeply at the plethora of folklore and myth associated with this busy month as the forest fills up with life, color, and sound. During Merry Month of May: Part 2 you will hike through the Loess Hills and focus on how different the forest and prairie seem from the beginning of the month to the end. You will learn more about two trees that are keystones of the savannah, floodplain, and forest here, The Bur Oak and The Cottonwood. The group will discuss how these species shape the ecology of the land and influence human culture while exploring the idea of these trees as "trees of life," or the World Tree or Axis Mundi.
