2020 Iowa Tourism Conference Recap and Awards

As we all look for good news while coping with COVID-19, the Council Bluffs Convention & Visitors Bureau has some to share. At the beginning of March, our staff attended the Iowa Tourism Conference in Des Moines. This conference is an annual event that brings people together in the tourism industry to meet, collaborate, and learn the best ways to promote Iowa as a tourism destination.

On Monday evening we attended the Iowa Legislative Showcase at the Iowa State Fairgrounds. At the showcase, we put together a small booth and brought new visitor guides as well as adorable black squirrel and UN cookies for everyone to enjoy. We had the opportunity to talk about important travel and tourism topics with our area legislators. We met with State Senator Tom Shipley and state representatives Mary Ann Hanusa, Charlie McConkey, and Jon Jacobsen.

Tuesday was a jammed packed day at the conference. We met a lot of our industry partners across the state of Iowa and attended educational breakout sessions on tourism, marketing, and the future of travel.

During lunch, the Iowa Tourism Awards were handed out. We were so honored and surprised to have received the Outstanding Community and Outstanding Website awards this year at the conference. We want to thank our amazing community and partners for making Council Bluffs such a great place to promote and visit! We would also like to thank the Neapolitan Labs team for helping us build a website that serves both our visitors and residents seamlessly and beautifully.

Tourism may be on hold for the time being, but the Council Bluffs CVB is geared up and ready for things to return to normal. We have a strong and resilient community that can make it through anything.
