Welcome to Hitchcock Hike for Health Club, led by level three fitness instructor and avid mountain climber, snow shoer, hiker, and master gardener Colleen Leinen! This event is free, but pre-registration is required. Hitchcock Hike for Health Club is designed for visitors ages 50+. Grab your partner or a group of friends and join us first for some light stretching and education on equipment and preparation in the Loess Hills Lodge Goldfinch Room, then hit the hilly Loess Hills trails for a guided fitness hike. If you are looking to get in tune with your body, work up a sweat, and engage with the outdoors, then this is the club for you (especially if you have a big hike or camping trip coming up!). Please dress for the weather (layers, a hat, and gloves are especially important for winter hiking) and wear appropriate hiking shoes or boots. Make sure to bring a reusable water container. Walking poles are highly recommended if you prefer them.

What began as an experiment in isolated locations in the south and southwest eventually led to more than 500 camps and 400,000 enemy soldiers interned in the United States, including two camps in Iowa. This talk will focus on the creation of two POW camps in Iowa during the second world war: one in Algona, and one in Clarinda. Presented by Chad Timm, Associate Professor of Education at Simpson College. This program is funded by Humanities Iowa and the National Endowment for the Humanities.
