The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.
Note: The Taco Ride is a weekly event. It runs every Thursday evening during most of the year, weather permitting. Visit the Taco Ride website, linked below, for event news. For more information about the ride, visit our blog.

Not Quite Brothers is Central Iowa’s fastest growing cover band. Formed in 2018, the band quickly became known for their huge sound, eclectic setlist and ability to enhance any party. Fans of all ages agree… “it feels like I am watching the band they are covering in their heyday” and “It’s so cool to see a younger generation playing my favorite songs on stage instead of overweight boomers in cargo shorts.” Sam Johnson (vocals) and Isaac Johnson (guitar) are twins and although Cooper Corcoran (guitar), Ben Schmelzer (drums) and Blake Marsh (bass) are of no relation to each other, these five fellas are as tight as brothers… but not quite.

The Lake Manawa Fireworks show is scheduled to take place Sunday, June 30th at 9:45PM. “This year’s show will be the 75th Anniversary show”. According to Cozad, the first fireworks show at Lake Manawa was held in 1894, which was the first of eight shows between 1894 and 1950. Starting in 1950, there has been a show every year except eight years. The math all adds up to the 2024 show being the 75th fireworks show held at Lake Manawa.
Cozad said, “In celebration of the 75th Anniversary, we have elevated the event by 150%! It will be the biggest and best fireworks show ever held at Lake Manawa”. J&M Displays will be putting the show on again. The show will be simulcast on 101.9 The Keg. Please tune in as you watch the show.
Traffic is expected to be heavy around the lake. Local law officials and the DNR will be patrolling the area and directing traffic. Those on the west side of the lake should exit north via 11th street and turn left (west), those on the east side of the lake should exit north via the E Manawa Drive and turn right (east). All others should exit north via Piute Street and continue north on the South Expressway. This traffic pattern will allow for an orderly and expedited experience.
