We are so excited to partner with Dustin Clayton with Pottawattamie Conservation to bring an introduction to wood carving workshop to the orchard!
In this two-hour program, participants will learn to create beautiful items using wood from Ditmars Orchard. We will cover the basics of using a carving knife safely and effectively. Topics covered will include:
• Woodland ecology and sustainable harvest practices
• How to choose the right wood and tools for your project
• Safety with edged tools
• Tips and techniques for successful carving

Dustin Clayton is a naturalist with Pottawattamie Conservation and a lifelong student of the natural world. He has been a carver of various materials for over 25 years. Dustin very much enjoys helping people connect with the natural world through the practice of traditional craft skills, such as carving.
