Celebrate One Community Reads! A singer-songwriter, Debra Marquart fuses poetry, music, and storytelling in her performances. Topics range widely and include the following: agriculture and rural life; music performance and popular music history; immigration and travel; and environmental issues. In 2019, Debra Marquart, Distinguished Professor of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Iowa State University, was named Iowa’s fourth Poet Laureate. The Iowa Poet Laureate is a two-year renewable appointment sponsored by Humanities Iowa that is intended to recognize the importance of poetry in Iowans’ everyday lives. This program is free and open to the public and was made possible with help from the Council Bluffs Public Library Foundation.
