June 25 | 4:30 - 5:15 p.m.First Avenue Trail at 35th Street
This is a dedication ceremony to unveil a historical marker at the site where a ballpark once stood. The ballpark was in operation from 1910-1952. During those years 25 Major League Baseball Hall of Famers performed at the ballpark. When the Negro Leagues were elevated to Major League status in 2020, the site also hosted six regular season major league games. It was also the home park of the minor league Omaha Cardinals for two years while Omaha was building their new stadium. Some of the notable Hall of Famers who played at the park were: Jackie Robinson, Bob Feller, Satchel Paige, Grover Cleveland Alexander, Cool Papa Bell, Dizzy Dean and Ernie Banks. The dedication ceremony will last about a half hour. Speaking at the dedication will be: Mayor Jill Shudak, baseball historian John Shorey, Omaha Storm Chasers President and General Manager Martie Cordaro, and Dean Wood who grew up near the ballpark and was a batboy for the famous Kansas City Monarchs. Event is free and all are welcome.
