There’s something magical about watching hot air balloons drift into the sky and glow against the backdrop of a September sunset. On Friday, September 5 and Saturday, September 6 head out to Ditmars Orchard & Vineyard in Council Bluffs for Fields of Flight – Hot Air Balloon Night at the Orchard! This one-of-a-kind evening pairs the beauty of colorful balloons with live music, delicious food, and the charm of the orchard. Best of all, proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life—so you can enjoy an unforgettable night while supporting a meaningful cause.
One of the highlights of the night is the Balloon Glow! At dusk, pilots fire up propane burners while the balloons remain on the ground, creating a glowing, colorful spectacle that’s truly magical—and perfect for photos. Even with all the balloon festivities, the orchard fun doesn’t stop! You can pick up fresh apples in the orchard store, and kids can enjoy the playground throughout the event.

Parking, Tickets & Payments
Admission is $40 per car, and that price covers everyone inside—only one ticket per vehicle is needed! Tickets must be purchased online in advance, and quantities are limited. Please note that no walk-ins will be accepted, so plan ahead and consider carpooling with friends or family. A free shuttle and tram service will run from the parking areas to the orchard for your convenience. Tickets are non-refundable, as proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. Ditmars Orchard accepts Visa and MasterCard for purchases over $5. Some food vendors may be cash-only, and there is no ATM on-site, so bringing cash will make your night smoother.
Baloon Rides
This is a spectator-only event, so there will be no private or tethered balloon rides. But don’t worry—the experience of watching the balloons take flight and glow at dusk is just as breathtaking.
Weather
Balloon flights are weather-dependent. Pilots will make the call about one hour before launch, so flexibility and patience are key.
Food & Drink
Come hungry! Outside food, drinks, and coolers are not permitted, but the orchard has you covered with plenty of tasty options. Enjoy Orchard Café favorites, food vendors, and seasonal specialties like warm apple cider doughnuts. Beer, wine, hard cider, soda, water, and fresh apple cider will also be available.
What to Bring
To stay comfortable throughout the evening, bring chairs, blankets, and bug spray. You’ll want to settle in and relax while enjoying the balloons, music, and orchard atmosphere.
