Loess Hills Lodge Interpretive Facility

UNleash discovery in the Loess Hills!

Take a break from Hitchcock Nature Center’s great outdoors in this unique exhibit gallery featuring a variety of hands-on activities for visitors of all ages!

Children will learn all about the local ecosystem and the plants and animals that call southwest Iowa home. In Curiosity Cove, children are presented with numerous learning-based activities. Kids can make animal prints, create their own habitat, read nature stories, and complete a scavenger hunt!

The raptor exhibit includes information about Hitchcock’s award-winning HawkWatch program and provides information on the 20 migrating raptor species spotted at Hitchcock in the fall. Simulate raptor wing motions as you move through aerial centers, identify raptors in flight, and listen to their unique calls!

Visitors will learn all about the unique Loess Hills and how they were formed while immersed in the prairie and woodland exhibit. A stewardship monitor allows visitors to discover more about ecological restoration and take a virtual tour of the park to dive deeper into the park’s history.

A visit to the Loess Hills Lodge Interpretive Facility is included in your $5 park admission fee.
