The heart-warming holiday tradition is back at the Union Pacific Railroad Museum! This December, the museum is hosting members of the N-Trak model train club and have their holiday model train on display. This fully-operational tabletop N-scale train and HO layout are available for viewing from December 3 thru December 18. As an added bonus, visitors will be able to operate the HO layout!
The model trains will be available from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the following Fridays and Saturdays:
- December 3 - 4
- December 10 - 11
- December 17 - 18
To visit the model trails, visitors will need to reserve a time to visit online. There are plenty of appointments, but schedule ahead of time to avoid missing out! Walk-ins will be accommodated if possible.
Model trains have been a part of Christmas festivities in the US for a long time. Some believe the tradition dates back to the 1940s when trains helped bring thousands of American servicemen and women home to their families for the holidays. Others say it's because the first regularly scheduled passenger train in the US began on Christmas Day in 1830. Regardless, the tradition still holds strong! Children and adults are both still delighted by watching a model train circle a Christmas tree.
