The Ultimate Council Bluffs Winter Bucket List

This winter, we challenge you to get into the ho-ho-holiday spirit by taking part in some Council Bluffs holiday traditions. We’re talking Christmas tree farms, Santa’s Wonderland, holiday lights, ugly sweaters, and so much more. We’ve got your Council Bluffs winter bucket list ready to start checking off!

Have a Tree-mendous Time at Dappen Tree Farm
Scotch, White Pine, Spruce, and Firs. Dappen Tree Farm offers a wide assortment of Christmas trees to choose from. You find the one you want, and they’ll cut it and shake it. To complement the experience Dappen Tree Farm offers tractor rides and hot chocolate. While you’re there, check out the wreaths and other holiday decorations. www.dappentreefarm.com

Get Lit
With holiday lights, of course. The 100 Block and Bayliss Park have beautiful holiday lights displays. Grab a cup of hot cocoa and adventure on foot. While you’re out and about, stop for dinner or drinks at one of the establishments on the 100 Block or in the Bayliss Park neighborhood. Too cold for your feet? Crank up the carols, and the heat in your car, and go Christmas cruising. Several neighborhoods around town are known for their participation in holiday displays including Locust Lodge, Forest Glen, and Bent Tree.

Visit Santa
Bass Pro Shop is home to Santa’s Wonderland, and the details of his village are quite authentic. Features include rustic Christmas cabins, holiday characters and live elves set amongst a dazzling backdrop of snow-covered hills and illuminated Christmas trees. The Santa’s Wonderland Christmas Village offers remote control trucks, laser/ foam toy arcade, Lincoln Logs building area and much more. Kids can also spend time at one of the activity tables where they can write a letter to Santa, color and do fun crafts, all for free.Even the pictures with Santa are free!

Dodge House Christmas Tree Display
The halls at the Dodge House are decked with boughs of holly. The trees are trimmed, and the decorations are aplenty. You must see the historic Dodge House in all of its holiday glory. Stop by on Family Night, December 7 or 14 from 6-8 p.m., and enjoy a discounted admission of $10 for two adults and children.

100 Block Ugly Sweater Pub Crawl
A local’s favorite! Dig out those cozy (or maybe itchy) ugly Christmas sweaters for this event. Pay the $5 entry fee, and you will get to sample different beers at each of the nine participating locations. Registration takes place at Barley's Bar, 114 W Broadway. Facebook Event

Shop Local
Find everyone on your list something special at one of the specialty shops or events in Council Bluffs. Well known for offering magnificent gifts are shops like The Olive Branch and Savannah Filmore. Grab a gift certificate to a local restaurant or salon. And, find unique and handmade goods at the Holiday Arts and Crafts Show at the Mid America Center on December 2 and 3.

Keep calm, and winter bucket list! Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-la
