This summer, we’re exploring Council Bluffs through firsthand adventures — one local gem at a time. Follow along as Emily Newby, an intern with the Council Bluffs CVB, shares authentic experiences from trails to treats, and everything in between.

Riding Into the Heart of Downtown Council Bluffs

Nestled in the heart of downtown Council Bluffs, the Historic 100 Block is a vibrant stretch of locally owned bars, restaurants, and shops set against a backdrop of preserved 19th-century architecture. Throughout the summer, the block really comes to life during Bikes on the Hundred Block—a monthly event where the streets are closed off to traffic, transforming the district into an open-air festival of motorcycles, music, food, and community. It’s part bike rally, part block party, and entirely one-of-a-kind.

On the night I went, bikes were already rumbling in around 5 p.m., and the energy was building fast. Motorcycle riders from all over gathered to show off their rides, socialize, and take in the festive atmosphere. The streets quickly filled with an eclectic mix of motorcycles—classic cruisers, tricked-out customs, and some truly creative designs. One of the most unforgettable bikes I saw had a massive shark head on the front. The owner even invited me to hop on for a photo. People were friendly, proud to show off their bikes, and clearly having a great time.

Before checking out all the action, I decided to grab dinner at Glory Days, a longtime favorite on the block. It’s a casual bar and grill serving up pizzas, sandwiches, and drinks, with seating inside, on the sidewalk, and even up on the rooftop. Since the heat was pretty intense, I chose to sit indoors and ordered the buffalo chicken wrap—something lighter, but full of flavor. The service was quick and friendly, and the food hit the spot. Next time, I’ve got my eye on their crab rangoon pizza, which I’ve heard is a must-try.

After dinner, I stepped outside to the main event. It was my first time walking the whole block during Bikes on the Hundred Block, and I was impressed by just how much there was to see and do. Local businesses had tents set up, vendors were selling merch, and bikes lined both sides of the street.

At the east end, a stage featured live music, and on this particular evening, the bands Heartbreaker and Trick Police kept the crowd entertained. If you didn’t bring your own chair, there were plenty of tables and spots to sit along the street. The entire block had a fun, welcoming vibe—lively, a bit gritty in the best way, and totally unique to Council Bluffs.

Though it leans more toward an adult crowd, with bar patios and beer gardens throughout the block, the event had a little something for everyone to enjoy—whether you’re into bikes, live music, or just looking for a different kind of summer evening.

The Historic 100 Block is more than just the backdrop for Bikes on the Hundred Block—it’s a hub of local flavor, creativity, and community spirit. Whether you're here for a special event or just passing through, the district offers a lively mix of dining, music, and small-town charm with big personality. If you haven’t explored it yet, consider this your invitation.
