Before American Gothic: Grant Wood on First Avenue
April 19 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.Bayliss Park Hall
When Grant Wood was in Council Bluffs he spent a lot of time on First Avenue— that’s where he worked. The internationally famous artist symbolically returns to First Avenue through a special presentation by art historian Dick Miller. The program will explore Wood’s years in Council Bluffs, including his use of sketches by fellow local artist George Simons as creative influence. This presentation is part of an open house celebrating the 125th anniversary of Bayliss Park Hall, originally dedicated on that same date. Complimentary wine and refreshments will be provided. Admission is free, and the public is invited. The event is sponsored by the Historical Society of Pottawattamie County.
