Hitchcock Insect Club is a grassroots club made up of local individuals who are passionate about bugs, and they want YOU to join in the fun! New insect topics will be discussed each month, Hitchcock Insect Club meets every fourth Thursday of the month, May through September.
The featured insect will be presented by: Ted Burk, PhD
Crickets are beloved for their sounds and behaviors, but they also serve as one of the most studied “model systems” in Biology, similar to fruit flies and honeybees. After briefly describing our diversity of local crickets, the talk will give examples of how studies of crickets have been significant for understanding such phenomena as neurobiology, genetics, the tree of life, and behavioral adaptations to environments.
Participation is free with a park membership or $5 park entry fee.
