East Pottawattamie Museum Crawl
July 12 | 1:00 - 4:00 p.m.Museums Across Pottawattamie County
The Museum Crawl is a way to experience the history of Southwest Iowa and learn how our ancestors once lived. In Macedonia see Dr. Stempel's collection of birds from his hobby as a taxidermist. Also see a child's coffin, turn of the century photographs, and an early post office. The Macedonia Depot, moved to Carson by the Wilbur family, houses railroad memorabilia. The Nishna Heritage Museum sits next to a garden honoring our agricultural past and includes a 100 x 20 mural painted by Zach Jones. Inside see an authentic Pony Express map, a covered wagon, and Western prints by Frank Tenney Johnson, who was born west of Oakland in 1874. The Sweet Vale of Avoca includes wildlife trophies such as a standing polar bear and wolves, Danish plates, and Native American artifacts. The Walnut Creek Museum resides in the old Masonic Hall and is three stories of treasurers focusing on the area's German heritage and farming traditions. Masonic emblems are in the tin ceiling. July 12, 1-4.
