Don Hickey, a retired history professor and award-winning author, will present a program on "The Trial of Standing Bear, 1879." He will tell the story of Standing Bear's arrest for leaving Indian Territory to bury his son in his homeland on the Niobrara. In a celebrated courtroom drama played out in Omaha, the presiding judge ruled that Standing Bear was a "person" under the law and could not be confined to the reservation against his will.
This American history program is open to the public. No registration needed.
