To "Educate" American Indians: An Early 20th Century History

Please join us for this powerful presentation by author, historian, and professor Larry C. Skogen, Ph.D. Utilizing To Educate American Indians: Selected Writings from the National Educational Association’s Department of Indian Education, 1900-1904 and 1905-1909, Dr. Skogen's presentation will outline the history of this department specifically created for those educators “civilizing” America’s Native peoples. This lecture, enhanced with period photographs and actual papers, will speak on the history of Indian schools, the educators who worked at them, the curriculum they taught, and their beliefs about Native students.
