Overview

Enjoy a surprisingly peaceful ride through the heart of Council Bluffs on Indian Creek Trail, a paved greenway stretching between two of Council Bluffs' favorite outdoor recreation areas. Although the trail passes through an urban corridor, much of the route feels comfortably removed from the city's bustle, following Indian Creek and portions of the Missouri River levee system with open skies, natural scenery, and long stretches where the city fades into the background.

The approximately 3.5-mile concrete trail welcomes walkers, runners, and cyclists of all ages and abilities, making it an inviting route for everything from a leisurely family outing to an afternoon bike ride. Along the way, the trail connects with the Lake Manawa Recreational Trail and the broader Council Bluffs trail system, making it easy to extend your adventure. Need a bike? Heartland Bike Share offers convenient rental stations nearby, providing an easy way to explore the trail and surrounding recreation areas without bringing your own equipment.

At its southern end, Lake Manawa State Park offers beaches, paddling, fishing, picnic areas, and additional miles of recreational trails. On the northern end, Sunset Park and Katelman Water Park provide another fun place to relax, cool off, or let the kids burn off energy before or after your adventure. Looking to make a day of it? Jonesy's Taco House, located just across the street from Sunset Park, is the perfect place to celebrate your ride with tacos, chips and salsa, margaritas, and other local favorites before heading home.
