Overview
Perched high above the Missouri River Valley in the globally significant Loess Hills, the Lewis & Clark Monument Scenic Overlook offers some of the most spectacular views in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro. The overlook provides sweeping vistas of the Missouri River, the longest river in North America, along with the Omaha skyline, Council Bluffs, and the surrounding landscape, making it a popular destination for sightseeing, photography, and sunset viewing.
Dedicated in 1936, the monument commemorates the 1804 Lewis and Clark Expedition and its historic meeting with the Otoe and Missouri tribes in the Council Bluffs area. Interpretive displays help visitors connect the region's natural beauty with its important role in America's westward exploration.
In addition to its scenic and historical significance, the site features picnic areas, seasonal restrooms, and access to a popular mountain bike trail, making it a favorite stop for both outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs.
