Western Historic Trails Center

4.2

Alert

Center is closed, but trails are open

Overview

Although the Western Historic Trails Center building is currently closed, visitors can still experience the site's extensive trail network and outdoor historical interpretation. Located along the Missouri River, the property features more than 200 metal sculptures created by artist Timothy Woodman that bring the stories of the Lewis and Clark, Mormon, Oregon, California, and Pioneer trails to life.

Hiking and biking trails wind through approximately 400 acres of prairie, offering opportunities to explore the landscape that played an important role in America's westward expansion. The combination of public art, natural scenery, and trail history makes the site a unique outdoor destination in Council Bluffs.

Located adjacent to the Council Bluffs Recreation Complex, the site offers tournament visitors and families an opportunity to explore prairie trails, public art, and regional history between games.
