October in Council Bluffs is all about fall in full swing—crisp air, colorful leaves, and plenty of seasonal fun. From festive events and cozy flavors to outdoor adventures and community traditions, there’s no shortage of ways to embrace the season. Here are five can’t-miss experiences this October!
1. Catch a Fall Flick at the Orchard
Settle in for a magical Friday night under the stars as the orchard transforms into an outdoor theater. Movies kick off at dusk, making for the perfect backdrop to a cozy evening with friends and family. Bring along a chair, blanket, or pillow to get extra comfy, and don’t forget your favorite people to share the night with. While outside food and drinks aren’t allowed, the orchard will be open with plenty of tasty options to satisfy your cravings. Breathe in the fresh fall air, watch the sunset fade into the screen, and enjoy an unforgettable movie night at Ditmars Orchard.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is a two-mile community event organized by the Alzheimer’s Association to raise funds for care, support, and groundbreaking research toward a cure. Taking place on October 4 at 9 AM at Iowa Western Community College, the walk invites participants to connect with local caregiver resources and show support for those impacted by the disease. 4. Experience the Magic of the 6th Annual Witchy Woods Walk

Discover the Loess Hills in a whole new way during the 6th Annual Halloween Witchy Woods Walk with Dustin Clayton on October 25 from 2 – 4 PM at Hitchcock Nature Center. This guided hike explores the forest and prairie through the lens of folklore. Along the trail, you’ll learn about the plants, animals, and minerals of the region and their ties to Halloween folklore.
