Labor Day weekend is a chance to squeeze in a little more summer fun, whether you’re heading to a cookout, meeting friends for drinks, catching live entertainment, or enjoying a long weekend around Council Bluffs. However you celebrate, make sure getting home safely is part of the plan.
AAA – The Auto Club Group is once again activating its Tow to Go program for Labor Day weekend, providing a free and confidential ride for impaired drivers and their vehicles.
The service will be available in Iowa and Nebraska from 6 p.m. Friday, September 4, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, September 8, 2026.
How Does Tow to Go Work?
If you find yourself without a safe way home, call (855) 2-TOW-2-GO (855-286-9246). AAA will dispatch a tow truck to transport you and your vehicle to a safe location within a 10-mile radius.
The program is:
- Free and confidential
- Available to AAA members and non-members
- Available throughout Iowa and Nebraska
- Designed as a last resort when other safe transportation arrangements haven't been made
AAA encourages everyone to plan transportation before celebrating. Choose a designated driver, arrange a ride with friends or family, use a rideshare service, or stay where you're celebrating whenever possible.
Why Tow to Go Matters
New AAA survey results show why having another safe option available can make a difference. According to AAA, 31% of Iowans surveyed admitted to driving after consuming alcohol, marijuana, or medications that could impair their ability to drive.
Among those Iowa drivers, 20% said they drove because they didn't want to leave their vehicle unattended overnight.
Tow to Go directly addresses that concern by getting both the driver and the vehicle to a safe location.
AAA – The Auto Club Group has offered Tow to Go for more than 25 years and reports that the program has helped remove nearly 30,000 impaired drivers from U.S. roadways.
