Get ready to ring the chains! Although Fairmount Park’s 10-hole disc golf course quietly opened last November, now it’s time to celebrate in style. The City of Council Bluffs is thrilled to invite you to the grand opening on Monday, May 12, from 5 to 7 p.m. Whether you’re a seasoned disc golfer or brand new to the sport, this celebration is for you.
Instead of the usual ribbon cutting, they’re kicking things off with a disc toss ceremony—a fun and fitting way to “open” the course. City officials, community members, and local youth will all take the first throws down the fairway at once. They'll also have disc golf contests, prizes, and a local taco truck to keep the party going.
This new course isn’t just a great addition to our parks—it’s a whole experience. The 10-hole layout winds through Fairmount Park’s wooded trails and scenic hills, featuring challenging elevation changes, narrow fairways, and stunning views of the Missouri River Valley. It’s free to play and open daily from sunrise to sunset. Players can start their game at Lookout Point, located on the west side of the park.
Mayor Matt Walsh summed it up best:
"The Fairmount Park disc golf course is another example of how we’re investing in our parks and creating more recreational opportunities for residents and visitors. We’re proud to add this course to our park system.”
The fun doesn’t stop there!
On Saturday, May 17, city officials are continuing the celebration at Cochran Park with a playful spin on the sport—Midwest Mini Putt. It’s like putt putt, but for disc golf! From 1 to 6 p.m., try your hand at a quirky 18-hole mini disc golf course designed for all ages and skill levels. It’s free to play, and yes, there’ll be a food truck to keep you fueled while you putt your way through the park.
