Lifestyle website Mom.me put together its list of "The Most Historic Small Towns in Every State," with a mission to find "our true past" via the country's "most historic settlments, villages, and towns."
Council Bluffs was highlighted in the series because of its significance from the Lewis and Clark Expedition. Writes Laura Lambert:
Another key spot in the Lewis and Clark Expedition, Council Bluffs is where, along the Missouri River, the explorers met with the Oto and Missouri tribes. The town is also historically important as a temporary Mormon settlement in the 1840s and '50s.
We love the history of Council Bluffs, which comes to life for residents and visitors in the city's museums, not to mention a half-dozen more spots scattered throughout Pottawattamie county.
