Featured Events for Kids and Teens
In December kids can get creative with cookie decorating, winter solstice rock art, post-it note art, and watercolor painting! Teens can enjoy a variety of creative activities, including making embroidered bookmarks, sampling different teas during a guided tasting, crafting a coil coaster, and creating unique texture tissue paper art. Teens can also learn how to paint Bob Ross's famous "Happy Little Trees" and create clay page holders.
Kids can also look forward lots of event in January including learning the basics of cross-stitch, designing your own squishie and creating upside down legos. On January 22 grab a cup of hot cocoa and join in for a few rounds of cozy Winter BINGO! On January 28, kids can drop in for a Pajama Party filled with fun, pajama-themed activities!
Recurring Events for Kids and Teens
The library offers many recurring events for young learners and their caregivers to connect. Parents can sip coffee at playdate café while kids play, or share songs and stories during weekly storytimes and love on a leash. Don't miss yoga storytime that combines playful poses with interactive tales. Homeschool huddle provides hands-on activities, while the 3D printing workshops introduce budding creators to new technology—complete with a small 3D-printed project to take home. Little ones will love creative movement with Motion Works Dance and music with Lori Lynn that combines music, dance, and storytime for thirty minutes of pure joy.
Featured Events For Adults
The library has a rich lineup of programs for adults, offering a mix of history, creativity, and community connection. In December you're invited to enjoy festive events like gift wrapping and card making! Also, on December 16 bring your acoustic string instrument and join in for a fun and relaxed strum-along session.
January is full of ways to learn and get creative. Start with a presentation on American history by author Don Hickey, then make your own vision board on January 10. Take a historic tour of the Carniege Library on January 12, or join the Nutrition 101 class on January 14 to learn the basics of balanced eating. You can also explore gardening with native plants. On January 20, Attorney Margaret McCabe will present and cover wills, probate, and trusts. On January 22 participants can learn how to create a custom tote bag using heat press! Wrap up the month with a special craft class on making altered books!
Recurring Events for Adults
The Council Bluffs Public Library hosts a wide range of recurring programs for adults. Tech help is available aswell as microsoft basics, while creative outlets include the 746 needlework club, pinterest'd in, machine embroidery class, how to sew, and the basic soldiering series. Book lovers can dive into the mystery book club, worlds away book club, or connect with local writers in the writer’s discussion group. The library also offers a lively speaker series with bestselling authors.
For social connections, check out the conversation club, adult board game night, or the coloring club. The lunch & learn series and lunch book club brings engaging topics to the table, and adventurers can join the D & D league! With so many opportunities, there’s always something happening for adults to learn, create, and connect.
