Featured Events for Kids and Teens
Families can get photos taken for free to send to family or friends with the holiday greenscreen photos event! In December get competitive with the parachute challenge! Or get creative with build it, cookie decorating, winter solstice rock art, post-it note art, and watercolor painting!
Recurring Events for Kids and Teens
The library offers many recurring events for young learners and their caregivers to connect. Parents can sip coffee at playdate café while kids play, or share songs and stories during weekly storytimes and love on a leash. Don't miss yoga storytime that combines playful poses with interactive tales. Homeschool huddle provides hands-on activities, while the 3D printing workshops introduce budding creators to new technology—complete with a small 3D-printed project to take home. Little ones will love creative movement with Motion Works Dance and music with Lori Lynn that combines music, dance, and storytime for thirty minutes of pure joy.
Featured Events For Adults
The library has a rich lineup of programs for adults, offering a mix of history, creativity, and community connection. In December you're invited to enjoy festive events like gift wrapping and card making and holiday crafts! You can also decorate cookies and engage in meaningful conversations to connect with fellow community members during cookies & connections. On December 4, look forward to an open mic poetry reading to listen to others work or share your own. Curious about what more there is to Pottawattamie County? Stop by the get out of town: east to the county line! Also, on December 16 bring your acoustic string instrument and join them for a fun and relaxed strum-along session.
January is full of ways to learn and get creative. Start with a presentation on American history by author Don Hickey, then make your own vision board on January 10. Take a historic tour of the Carniege Library on January 12, or join the Nutrition 101 class on January 14 to make a healthy snack and learn the basics of balanced eating. You can also explore gardening with native plants. On January 20, Attorney Margaret McCabe will present and cover wills, probate, and trusts. Wrap up the month on January 24 with a special craft class on making altered books.
Recurring Events for Adults
The Council Bluffs Public Library hosts a wide range of recurring programs for adults. Tech help is available through drop-In! tech help and microsoft basics, while creative outlets include the 746 needlework club, pinterest'd In, machine embroidery class, how to sew, and the basic soldiering series. Book lovers can dive into the mystery book club, worlds away book club, or connect with local writers in A Work in Progress: writer’s discussion group. The library also offers a lively speaker series with bestselling authors.
For social connections, check out the conversation club: Spanish-English language exchange, adult board game night, pan, café y leyendas, or the adult coloring club. The lunch & learn series and lunch book club brings engaging topics to the table, and adventurers can join the D & D adventurers league for epic storytelling. With so many opportunities, there’s always something happening for adults to learn, create, and connect.
