Lines with Power and Purpose: Editorial Cartoons

Newspaper cartoons have been the highlight of consuming the news for decades. The cartoons typically make social commentary while entertaining the viewers through witty and high-level illustrations. Lines with Power and Purpose: Editorial Cartoons features fifty-one editorial cartoons from some of the most well-known metropolitan newspapers during the Golden Age of printed journalism.
A lot of the work includes political commentary and they address issues from the first half of the twentieth century. Talented cartoonists were able to make complex political issues and the rawness of reality accessible to the average person.
To limit contact and adhere to social distancing guidelines, guests must make a reservation for a time to enter the Nelson Gallery in advance of their visit. You can either make a reservation online or call 712-890-5600. Time slots are available Thursdays from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. and Friday-Sunday from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.
Guests should evaluate their risk in determining whether to visit. Any interaction with the general public poses an elevated risk of being exposed to COVID-19, and it can not be guaranteed that you will not be exposed during your visit. Face masks must be worn when visiting the Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center.
