Council Bluffs has a new way for locals to get involved — and it’s as fun as it is rewarding. The City recently launched the Parks & Paths Volunteer Program, giving community groups, businesses, and clubs a chance to help keep our trails and parks clean and beautiful.
How It Works
Gather your group, “adopt” the FIRST AVE Trail for a day, and spend a few hours picking up litter and keeping this vibrant space welcoming for everyone. The City provides all the supplies — bags, gloves, and trash grabbers — so all you need to bring is your energy and enthusiasm.
Why FIRST AVE?
Once a rail line, the FIRST AVE Trail has transformed into one of Council Bluffs’ most exciting spaces — complete with walking and biking paths, plazas, lighting, landscaping, and 15 new murals. Nearly 60% of residents live within a mile of the trail, making it an ideal spot for community action.
The program is part of the FIRST AVE Initiative, supported by the Iowa West Foundation, which continues to bring art, events, and placemaking projects to the area.
