The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.
Note: The Taco Ride is a weekly event. It runs every Thursday evening during most of the year, weather permitting. Visit the Taco Ride website, linked below, for event news. For more information about the ride, visit our blog.

Please join us for a presentation by Jeff Bremer, author of A New History of Iowa.
Jeff Bremer's A New History of Iowa offers the most comprehensive history of the Hawkeye State ever written, surveying Iowa from the last ice age through the COVID-19 pandemic. It tells a new and vibrant story, examining the state's small-town culture, politics, social and economic development, and its many diverse inhabitants. Bremer features well-known individuals, such as Sauk leader Black Hawk, artist Grant Wood, botanist George Washington Carver, suffragist Carrie Chapman Catt, and President Herbert Hoover. But Bremer broadens the state's story by including new voices—among them, runaway enslaved men who joined Iowa's 60th Colored Regiment in the Civil War, young female pearl button factory workers, Latino railroad workers who migrated to the state in the early twentieth century, and recent refugees from Southeast Asia and the Balkans.

The General’s Ladies of the Historic General Dodge House proudly present the 2025 Fall Tea.
The Black Angel, sculpted by Daniel Chester French, stands as a memorial to Ruth Anne Dodge, wife of General Grenville M. Dodge, and mother of three daughters. There is more to this beautiful sculpture than many are aware of … America’s first supermodel, Audrey Munson.
“What becomes of the artists’ models?” Audrey Munson asked plaintively a century ago. “Where is she now, this model who was so beautiful? What has been her reward? Is she happy and prosperous, or is she sad and forlorn, her beauty gone, leaving only memories in the wake?”
Join us to learn the dark story behind the Council Bluffs Black Angel: Beauty, Murder, Insanity, and Art.

In the spirit of Ken Burns’ breakout PBS documentary series on American country music, guitarist and music historian Joey Leone presents this program covering the history, influence, and social impact of American blues music through songs, stories and historical facts. Joey highlights the influence of blues on virtually all styles of contemporary music over the past 7 decades playing a variety of songs on multiple guitars from his personal collection. In addition to live music segments, he touches on recurring themes, like how the blues transcended racial boundaries, brought people together, and how the blues followed the migration of African Americans from the rural south to the urban north. Joey truly believes in the unifying and healing power of music, which comes through during this inspiring and delightful program.

Some bands fade with time, but RAVEN didn't fade - they took a 35 year intermission.
Formed in spring 1979, RAVEN became a staple of the Midwest music scene, packing venues with powerful renditions of 70s and 80s rock hits. Their blend of classic rock, country, blues, and old time country flair connected with audiences across generations.
Through the early to mid 80s, RAVEN built a loyal fanbase before stepping away from the spotlight. Over three decades later, the band is back and better than ever.
Original members Bill Bressman (drums), Dale Dunham (guitar), Tim Williams (guitar), and Mike Taylor (bass) reunite with new members Mathew Taylor (guitar) and Austin Dunham (vocals).
As RAVEN steps back on the stage, they carry the spirit of 1979 into a new era.
This isn’t just a reunion - It’s a revival that you will not want to miss.
Late September will make for perfect fall weather - making this an unforgettable evening of music at the orchard.
