Spring just showed up early in Council Bluffs—and so did one of its best outdoor spots. Narrows River Park is officially open for the season as of March 26, giving you extra time to get outside, explore, and enjoy the Missouri River. Normally reopening around April 1, this early start is your excuse to shake off winter and dive into fresh air a little sooner this year.
Plan Ahead, Then Dive In
Before you head out, there are a couple things to know to make the most of your visit. Water levels are currently low, so if you're planning to launch a boat, be sure to use caution and trust your judgment. Through April, the park is open from sunrise to sunset, with extended hours kicking in May through October from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM—ideal for everything from peaceful mornings to golden hour views.
Getting into Narrows is simple and budget-friendly, making it an easy add to any spring day. Entry is $3 per vehicle or just $1 if you’re walking, biking, or scooting in. Even better, admission is free for Pottawattamie Conservation Foundation members—perfect for those who plan to make Narrows a regular stop this season.
Your Go-To Spot for Riverfront Adventure
Narrows River Park isn’t just a quick stop—it’s a full experience. Spend the day out on the water with river access via the boat ramp and dock, or keep it low-key with a picnic at one of the shelters. Kids can hit the playground while hikers take advantage of seasonal trails, and if you’re feeling adventurous, the archery range offers something a little different. One of the coolest unexpected perks? The park sits near Eppley Airfield, so you’ll catch incredible views of planes taking off and landing while you explore.
Try Something New This Spring
Looking to mix up your routine? The upcoming Family Learn Archery event on April 24 at 6:30 PM is a perfect excuse to do just that. For just $5 per person, participants ages 8 and up can learn the basics in a relaxed, beginner-friendly setting—with all equipment provided. It’s a fun, easy way to get outside and try something new with friends or family, but be sure to register ahead of time to save your spot.
Unleash Your Spring at Narrows
If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to get back outside, this is it. Whether you're chasing adventure, planning a laid-back afternoon, or just looking for a new view, Narrows River Park is ready. Pack a picnic, grab your crew, and head to the river—because spring in Council Bluffs starts right here.
