The Food Bank for the Heartland has long served our community by providing food for those in need. Unfortunately, the coronavirus pandemic has shown that there are more and more people in our community that are in need of food. To help serve these people, but also limit person-to-person contact, they packaged up 28-pound boxes with a variety of food items to handout.
On Wednesday they set up a drive-thru location at Lewis Central Middle School and had Lewis Central Community School District staff and volunteers load boxes into vehicles for those who showed up at the drive-thru.
Fortunately and unfortunately, they had a huge turnout. They were able to serve 240 families, which is amazing! The rest of the families were provided information about upcoming pantry drive-thrus and other assistance that is available to them.
A big thank you to the Food Bank for the Heartland and the LC staff for helping out!
