Join naturalist and artisan Dustin Clayton to learn how to turn wood from Hitchcock’s forests into beautiful decorative items perfect for the holiday season. This three-session class will cover the basics of wood carving using a limited tool kit. We will discuss: History and design, Woodland ecology/sustainable harvest, wood choice, tool choice, safety with edged tools, and tips and techniques for successful carving. Our primary project will be a Scandinavian-style Tomte carving that could make a wonderfully personal, handmade gift for someone special.

The Iowa Driver Improvement (DIP) will examine attitudes and behavior in relation to driving. It will focus on teaching drivers how their behind the wheel attitude affects their driving behavior. Its purpose is to give participants an opportunity to reflect on their driving behavior and make a commitment to positively alter their daily driving experience.

Learn how to use Tinkercad to build and manipulate 3D designs. In this class, we’ll go over merging and subtracting shapes, readying objects for 3D printing by adding supports and exporting files. Finally, you will send your files to the 3D printer and watch them emerge in the real world!

Please register at least two weeks prior to the scheduled date. On that day, you'll attend a 4-hour review and Q&A session with the instructor, followed by the 2-hour certification exam. A ServSafe study guide will be mailed to your address on file upon registration. This is an independent study - ServSafe Manager course—students are expected to study the materials on their own in advance. The testing day includes a brief Q&A session and ends with the national certification exam. The course provides essential food safety knowledge for food handlers, covering topics such as foodborne illness, contamination, receiving and storing food, preparation, service, hygiene, sanitation, pest control, and inspections. It is ideal for those in restaurants, long-term care, assisted living, schools, food trucks, and small food businesses.

In this program Beatles historian Brian Mainwaring will talk about The Beatles' music during the very pivotal year of 1966. According to Mainwaring, 1966 was an important year for the group, and they released some of their most recognizable and influential tunes.
In Part 3 of The Beatles and the Bluffs, you will also be treated to more snippets and videos of The Beatles as well as a live music rendition of some of those famous jams.

Drop in and get your gifts wrapped for your family and friends. We provide the space and wrapping supplies and you bring your gifts to wrap. Feel free to make a holiday card for a loved one as well!

Step into an evening of storytelling, music, and shared creativity inspired by the natural world. Story Weaver welcomes storytellers, musicians, poets, thinkers—and anyone who simply loves to listen. Participants may share a story, poem, or song connected to nature in any form: true, mythical, funny, moving, or imaginative.
For December’s gathering, we invite pieces that reflect the spirit of the season as winter settles in—celebrations, solstice traditions, folklore, or memorable moments in the great outdoors. Whether you come to perform or just enjoy the magic, all are welcome to join us for an evening around the fire.
Hosted by naturalist and storyteller, Dustin Clayton. Holiday refreshments, including cider and cookies, will also be provided.

You are invited to join us for an upcoming holiday music event featuring Phyllis Anderson and The Ring of Flutes. This talented group of seven flute players will perform lively holiday tunes and popular songs suitable for listeners of all ages.
The event is free, open to the public, and refreshments will be provided. In addition to the musical performance, we will offer card-making and gift-wrapping stations for your holiday needs, available before and after the program.
Learn how to solder stained glass. In this class, we’ll go over the basics of the soldering iron, types of solder, basic terminology, and safety. Then, we’ll put that knowledge to use by practicing soldering scrap glass. Finally, you will complete a stained glass project kit!

Babysitting Course with CPR

This in-person course prepares youth ages 11-16 to safely and confidently care for children and infants. It includes hands-on activities, videos, and discussions to develop essential real-life readiness babysitting skills. The course covers feeding, diapering, picking up and holding, children's safety and emergency response. This course includes CPR certification. Participants receive a 10-year Babysitter's Training Certificate upon completion.

Join us as we craft personalized mini books and add them to an ornament to celebrate the winter season! Design mini covers and fill your ornament with all your favorite books. This program is open to patrons in 6th through 12th grade.
Supplies are limited - registration required!
