Overview
Painted by artist Weston Thomson, "Dream Builder" tells the story of local home builder John Roth and celebrates the craftsmanship, dedication, and vision behind the construction trades. Through architectural drawings, symbolic trade tools, and purposeful colors, the mural honors the people who helped shape Council Bluffs through their work and skill.
The artwork incorporates unique references to Roth's life, including "lefty" and "500," recognizing his ambidextrous nature and the hundreds of homes he built throughout the community. Thomson described the mural as a tribute to both local history and the vibrant spirit of present-day Council Bluffs.
Located along FIRST AVE Trail, this mural is part of the City of Council Bluffs' public art initiative, supported by the Iowa West Foundation. Together with other murals along the corridor, it helps transform FIRST AVE into an outdoor gallery celebrating local history, creativity, and community pride.
