Overview
Grant Wood's Corn Room mural is one of two large-scale works commissioned for Council Bluffs' Hotel Chieftain in 1927. Created by the artist best known for American Gothic, the mural reflects Wood's distinctive regionalist style and celebrates the agricultural heritage that helped shape western Iowa.
Today, the mural is preserved and displayed at the Hoff Family Arts & Culture Center, where visitors can experience an original work by one of America's most influential artists. Displayed alongside Early Days of Kanesville, the mural helps tell the story of both Council Bluffs' history and Grant Wood's artistic legacy.
