The Charles E. Lakin Pier

Alert

Under Construction – Opening 2026

Overview

Coming in 2026, the Charles E. Lakin Pier will offer a unique way to experience the Missouri River, North America's longest river, from the heart of Council Bluffs' growing riverfront district. Extending beyond the river's edge near Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park, the pier will provide visitors with a new perspective of the river, the surrounding landscape, and the Omaha skyline.

Connected to the Iowa Riverfront Trail and located within walking distance of several riverfront attractions, the Charles E. Lakin Pier is designed to become a signature gathering place for sightseeing, photography, and enjoying the natural beauty of the Missouri River. While the pier is not yet open to the public, it is expected to become one of the region's most distinctive riverfront experiences upon completion.
