Eagles of Honor Project
Did you know that every community in Pottawattamie County is home to its own Eagle of Honor? These striking bronze sculptures by artist Russell Christensen were crafted to uniquely honor veterans and their families. Each eagle is a one-of-a-kind tribute to courage, sacrifice, and patriotism—stand before them, and you’ll feel the emotion in the metal.

Pottawattamie County Freedom Rock
Standing proudly in Oakland, the Pottawattamie County Freedom Rock is a vivid mural by Iowa artist Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II, part of a statewide tour honoring Iowa veterans. This rock, the 57th in the series, honors four local heroes and captures the stories of service that shaped our communities.

Veterans Plaza in Bayliss Park
At the heart of Council Bluffs, Bayliss Park is a gathering place for generations. Within it lies the moving Veterans Plaza, designed by sculptor John Lajba. The memorial honors local service members from the Civil War to the War on Terror, with names etched into stone as a solemn reminder of the lives given for our freedom.
