From the late 1920s through the end of World War II, studios like MGM, Warner Bros, 20th Century Fox, Paramount, and RKO would dominate film production, not only in America but throughout the world. Despite the economic problems posed by the Depression, the studios became virtual entertainment factories, with each studio producing more than 50 movies a year. Professor emeritus, Brian Rose, will examine the forces that made Hollywood the giant of global film-making and the special nature of its achievements during its Golden Age. This program is free and open to the public and has been made possible with help from The Council Bluffs Public Library Foundation.

In 1957, teens Phil and Don Everly supercharged the vocal sound of Rock ’n’ Roll with Bye Bye Love and Wake Up Little Susie, unleashing the sparkling vocal harmonies that would influence The Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, The Beach Boys, The Hollies, The Eagles, the Bee Gees, and Peter, Paul and Mary. Now, six decades later, two acclaimed singer-songwriters with a mind-bending three-decade age difference combine millennial pluck with baby-boomer sass to present The Everly Set: A Celebration of The Everly Brothers. This walk down memory lane features Bye Bye Love, Wake Up Little Susie, Cathy’s Clown, All I Have To Do Is Dream, When Will I Be Loved, Crying In The Rain, Love Hurts, Bird Dog, Claudette, Walk Right Back, and more hits and rarities in concert. Sean Altman (Rockapella founder, Carmen Sandiego theme song composer), 20-something ex-teen idol Jack Skuller (Disney recording artist, Songwriters Hall of Fame “Holly Prize”) and their band bring you this night of musical nostalgia.

The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.
Note: The Taco Ride is a weekly event. It runs every Thursday evening during most of the year, weather permitting. Visit the Taco Ride website, linked below, for event news. For more information about the ride, visit our blog.
