Overview
Anticipated Opening: Summer 2026
A major new attraction is coming to Tom Hanafan River’s Edge Park — the MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower.
Made possible by a $5 million contribution from MidAmerican Energy, the 138-foot tower will offer elevated observation decks with sweeping views of the Missouri River, woodlands, and city skyline.
The project goes beyond an observation tower, featuring:
- A 50-foot outdoor climbing wall designed for speed climbing
- A 480-foot roll-glide experience suspended above the ground
- 400 feet of simulated cave exploration
Built above the flood zone with an elevated walkway from the levee, the structure is designed for year-round access and resilience in changing river conditions.
The tower is part of River’s Edge Phase Four, which also includes a treetop walk and riverfront pier. The project is led by Southwest Iowa Nonprofit for Collective Impact (SINC) in partnership with the City of Council Bluffs and funded entirely through private donations, including a $15 million lead gift from the Iowa West Foundation.
Once complete, the MidAmerican Energy Adventure Tower will become a signature outdoor adventure destination for Council Bluffs.
