When summer is at its hottest and gold is just beginning to touch the grasses, join Dustin Clayton at Hitchcock Nature Center and witness how life is ripening as the growing season approaches its apogee.
We'll examine the fruit and nut trees and check their progress and take a close look at the late summer flowers and plants competing for pollinators. We'll talk about the vast array of wild medicines, foods, and craft materials present at this time and about how to respectfully engage with this bounty and incorporate forest and prairie plants into your home garden.

A commercial learner's permit (CLP) is a permit that only authorizes you to practice on public roads with a qualified CDL holder sitting next to you.
The CLP test is broken down into three sections:

This online course will prepare you to take the General knowledge test to obtain your CLP.

Join us for an Iowa DNR-certified Hunter Education Field Day course where students will learn the vital basics of hunting, including wildlife identification, first aid, firearm and archery safety, and more. Hunter Education Field Day courses are offered by knowledgeable and certified volunteer instructors and Iowa Conservation Officers.

The Taco Ride takes place every Thursday evening on the Wabash Trace Nature Trail, from Council Bluffs, Iowa to Mineola, Iowa, and back. The scenic ride is about 20 miles through the Loess Hills and ends with dinner at Tobey Jack's Mineola Steakhouse. The weekly rides take place from when the trail is dry enough in the spring (usually in April or May) until late in the fall (usually until Halloween).
Most riders start at Iowa West Foundation Trailhead Park where parking is available. Slightly more than halfway between the trailhead and Tobey Jack's, many riders will stop at a picnic area, nicknamed Margaritaville, for a quick break and to join in a conversation with fellow bikers or to partake in refreshments they brought with them.

This summer, join Isaiah Lusajo for a Bible study exploring the Lutheran theology of vocation; the bold idea that your everyday life is the very place God calls you to serve Him and your neighbor. Isaiah is a Council Bluffs native, an Abraham Lincoln High School alum, and a pre-seminary student at Concordia University Nebraska in Seward. He brings both the theological grounding of his studies and the relatable perspective of a young man figuring out what it looks like to follow Christ in real life. Whether you're a student, a young professional, or just someone asking "what am I supposed to do with my faith?", this study is for you. The Zoning Board of Adjustment hears requests for conditional use permits and requests for variances from the Zoning Ordinance. The board also conducts hearings on appeals of administrative interpretations pertaining to the Zoning Ordinance. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of the month in the Council Chamber on the second floor of City Hall.
The Treynor Farmers market is a family-friendly and entertaining place to be on Tuesday nights during the summer months. The vendors will have fresh baked goods, produce and other items that will certainly be of interest to all. There will also be food trucks and a beer garden hosted by the American Legion Post #725 too.

Welcome to Gentle Yoga with Katie Stratman. This event is for anyone who is interested in yoga, whether you are a beginner or experienced.
This is an 18+ event and free with $5/Vehicle Park Entry or Membership.
Need to wind down after a long day? Join Katie Stratman for Gentle Yoga at Hitchcock Nature Center in the Goldfinch room. You don't need to be a yoga master to join this class. This session will be very beginner-friendly, focusing on gentle movement, stretching, and breathing.
Participants will need to bring their own water bottle and mat.
The Avoca Main Street Farmers Market runs on North Elm Street beginning June 3, 2026 and continuing every Wednesday evening until September 30, 2026. The market features fresh local produce, baked goods, honey, fresh cut flowers, homemade soaps, crafts, and prepared food truck meals from farmers, food producers, and local artisans. The Avoca Public Library will offer bi-lingual family programming, and the market will feature weekly musical performances and other all-ages entertainment.

Monthly cook-out and open house. Join us for hamburgers, hot dogs, brats and chicken breasts. Tour our military museum and working hangar, meet pilots, mechanics, instructors and military history and aviation enthusiasts. Experience aircraft and aviation and explore the opportunities that exist in aviation today. You can even schedule a ride in our historical Fairchild PT-19 open-cockpit airplane.
Admission is free, cookout is a free will donation, museum and hangar tours are also free. PT-19 rides are $295.00 and are tax deductible.
We start serving about 5:30 PM and will serve until about 7 PM or until we run out of food.

Over 75 years ago Walnut was the place to be for Sauerkraut Days. We’re bringing it back! There will be activities going on all day for all ages. It is a FREE event. We’ll have a fireman’s breakfast and backpack drive to start the morning, followed by a farmers market, bouncy houses, donkey races, and several other activities going on all day.
